Before you step in front of the lens (well… just your eye!), we want you to feel completely comfortable and informed. Whether you’re curious about what to wear, how to book, or if your little one is ready for their close-up, this page covers it all. Browse our most frequently asked questions below to help you prepare for your EYEconic iris photography experience with Violeta Brown.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what to expect during your iris photo session and how to prepare for the best results.
You’ll be seated comfortably using an optometrist-style chin rest to keep your head steady—this helps eliminate movement, which is essential for capturing sharp, detailed images of your iris. Once you’re settled, I’ll use either bright but comfortable LED lighting or a flash setup to properly illuminate your eye and gently constrict your pupil. This helps reveal more surface area and intricate detail in your iris. If the constant light is uncomfortable, don’t worry—I have a flash alternative that may work better for you.

View available dates, pay securely, and complete the required contract. Interested in group sessions? Ask about our custom iris parties! How long does a session take? Currently, we only photograph human irises. Pet iris sessions aren’t available at this time. What’s the minimum age for a session? There’s no strict age limit—as long as your child can sit still and keep their eye open for about 5–7 minutes, we’re good to go! When will I receive my photos? The secret to a stunning iris photo? Your eyelids!
One of the most important factors in getting the best results is your ability to open your eyelids wide—without using your fingers. Practicing in front of a mirror beforehand can really help! Try making an exaggerated “surprised” face—raise your eyebrows high to lift your upper lids, and use your cheeks and mouth to pull your lower lid down. The more iris we can see, the better the final image.
Don’t stress if it’s tricky—I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve to help during your session if needed.
The session itself is quick and easy—only about 10 minutes per eye depending on how much of the iris we’re able to capture.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out. I’m here to help make this a fun, comfortable, and unforgettable experience!
